Paul and Nikki sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes sex, then comes the burning, them comes Nikki with a VD in the doctor's office..... We all know Paul ain't no saint on that front and soaps do love to revert to things of the past.

Nikki, the itch ain't worth scratching if you need medication for it!

I think this is such a fabulous coupling. 30 years ago, they had a brief affair resulting in Paul transmitting VD to Nikki and after many marriages to other people, lots of drama, their friendship has always remained strong and loyal. It is such an organic, natural pairing. I believe that Paul has always carried a torch for her but knowing that Victor was the love of her life kept him from making any advances. Now that they have lived, had many experiences, grown and matured, they are both at a place in their lives where this just feels right. They trust each other immensely and have a deep, abiding respect for the other. They are ripe for not just a roll in the hay but an actual romantic relationship. I would love to see them blossom into a full-fledged couple and take that trust and respect to the next level. While Victor still harbors bitter, angry feelings towards the mother of most of his children and has welcomed Ashley with open arms into his life, crediting her with saving him (when it was Nikki's sacrifice of asking Ashley to help find him), Nikki deserves the same chance at beginning a new chapter of her life. Of course, I do hope that, eventually, Nikki and Victor find their way back to each other, as they are THE soulmates and anchors of the show. In the meanwhile, I would embrace and delight in seeing Nikki be treated like a lady, truly loved for who she is and has the chance to reinvigorate herself. This story has the possibility to play out over a year or more. It all comes back to the writing and Maria Bell and Hogan Sheffer have done a marvelous job of retooling this show, bringing back all of Bill Bell's core values and sense of pacing, conflict and complex, 3-dimensional character-based drama. They are showing the soap industry exactly how it is done and blowing all the other shows out of the water. Y&R has once again become the show that I rush home from work to watch and the only soap (out of 4) that I watch daily. In fact one show which shall remain nameless (think misogynistic, needless, countless amounts of violence), is getting so bad and so unwatchable that I am seriously considering cutting my soap count to 3. Other then B&B and OLTL, are there any other soaps that I should be watching right now that will satisfy the long-time, old school soap fan that I am?
