Isaiah Washington Slams Grey's Anatomy For Firing Brooke Smith
By Luke Kerr on November 10, 2008

In what may be the irony of the week Isaiah Washington is slamming Grey's Anatomy for firing Brooke Smith, who plays a lesbian character on the hit medical drama, while also saying the show can be fixed by bringing him back.
US Magazine has published excerpts from the interview and there are so many quotes you'll have to read them for yourself to get the full context.

I REALLY DO BELIEVE THAT AFTER HE WAS FIRED THE SHOW WENT DOWN HILL

I liked her character UNTIL they decided to pair her with Callie. I liked her hard ass ways and especially arguing with Dr. Burke.

I think that she was a great actress.
The problem was that being that rude to everyone she did not integrate that well with the others, and that is why it will touch only Callie when she is gone! Too bad.

I think the show has improved this year but the one storyline that seemed very forced was Callie/Erica. I was hoping we would see a relationship with Erica and Sloan but they went down the "new lesbian" path which was boring. And how much does this show waste the Sloan character!?!?

Oh, Mark is totally wasted on this show. Eric Dane has the comedic chops and the charisma. I don't know why they don't give him his own story. I'd like to see what he can do dramatically. I wasn't for a Mark/Erica relationship in the beginning but, now, I think it would have been good to see the two of them together. It would have been nice to see Mark w/ a strong woman who didn't necessarily fit the typical beauty role.
I also wasn't crazy about the character of Erica in the beginning. She was really mean but I did like the way she treated Christina sometimes. Christina can be mean, also, especially, to the interns and it's nice to see someone knock her down a peg, besides, Bailey, of course.

I always liked Burke but they will never bring him back due to the fact that nobody in the cast (Dempsey, Heigl, Knight) do not like or get along with him. Since Burke left, there has been something missing from the show. Maybe the Dances with Wolves lady (mary Mcdonnell?) they are bringing on or the Major will add that depth.
I am also not opposed to gay relationships on tv but Erica and Callie were too forced. I would love to see the writers delve into a Sloane-Callie relationship. Eric Dane looks like he did a great job in Marley and me!
They are doing something right by bringing Denny back! Even when he is dead, he is hot!

Erica and Callie were disgusting. They handled that story w/ the maturity level of Animal House! And that's an insult to the maturity level of that movie. They did the character of Callie no favors by having her act the way she did.

Damn you, Luke, I really wanted to post this!
I just read it somewhere and rushed here to post it... you're too efficient, you'd already done it!
I was a big fan of Erica, I think she brought a different dynamic to the show. She's a fantastic actress and I think her character had a lot of potential. How annoying.
Season, I kind of agree - the whole "Callie gets advice from Sloan on licking" was a big miss-step. I think there was a good connection between Callie/Erica, it was just messed up writing that ruined it in the end.

I was fortunately a few minutes behind watching GA lately so I was always able to FF past the Callie/Erica stuff when they started the whole "south of the border" conversations. Why not have 2 actual characters who are lesbians or bi instead of this sudden "awakening". I also found it pretty interesting that they went with Callie and Erica as the lesbians instead of..oh I don't know Meredith, Christina, Izzie, Lexie etc.
As for Sloan (Eric Dane), sigh. I love him in almost any scene. He is sooo wasted in this show right now. It's like Dena H has given Shonda some hints on how to waste the most sexy and charismatic actors at their disposal by castrating them or sticking them in the background. Ugh!!!

Darren, I had no problem w/ the couple, just the execution of the story. You have two grown professional women who suddenly find themselves attracted to each other while trying to figure out their relationship and that was the best they could do w/ them. The writing for Erica was good. I liked the "I see leaves" moment. I thought it was cute. But the writing for Callie was all wrong. It came off like a joke. It's one thing to have funny moments, it's quite another to write the nonsense that Callie was doing. If that was the way they were going to take it I'd rather they never did put them together at all.

Brooke got thrown under the bus literally and in many ways Isaiah is right. One of the cool things about Grey's was how complete the original cast was. Even adding on Sloan and Callie, it still held firm. There was no real closure with Christina and Burke (who were my fave couple, btw). I agree that as long as Heigl and Knight are around, they'll never bring him back. Dempsey, IMO, can work with him and they probably have already settled it.
Shonda needs to get her show back on track ASAP.

Season, "I see leaves" was great...
You're right, the idiocy Callie was reduced to was dumb.
As for Sloan, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks he needs to be utilised properly - he's being frikkin' wasted
Bring back Addie and make Meredith mute and I'll be happy.

LOL! I know her name is in the show's title but the character of Meredith is becoming less and less necessary, in my opinion. Either, grow her up or ship her out! The problem that this show has is that it has so much good talent. It's hard to give everyone their due.
There is a reason that Heigl didn't get her Emmy worthy material last year (slight dig on Katherine
). There are too many worthy actors on this show for everyone to get the full amount of time for their own story. Although, I will say that Heigl was given a bad s/l last year. Instead, of focusing on her pain over Denny's death they wrote her as a home-wrecker.

Heigl's story was vile last year, I'm still finding it hard to warm up to her again. Poor Katherine
Meredith: "either grow her up or ship her out!" Preach it!

Isiah Washington. LOL. Got something to say about Grey's. Calls them disgusting.LOL He should know. I wonder if he has an axe to grind. It always tickles me to see this make make himself look more of a fool.
