Ending months of specualtion, Variety is reporting that NBC and Sony Pictures TV have finally reached a deal to keep Days of Our Lives on the air possibly through Sept. 2011.
According to the article, NBC's current deal for Days was going to expire in March. The new contract will keep Days of Our Lives on NBC through Sept. 2010, however, if " certain parameters on the show are met", the 43-year-old sudser could be on the air through 2011. The article also points out that Days was previously renewed in five-year cycles, illustrating a new reality for network soap opera contract negotiations.

With Days' current quality, I'm surprised it was renewed. This is a little bittersweet. Two more years of terrible-ness!
You forgot this tasty morsel:
"As part of the renewal it's understood that the show, led by exec producer Ken Corday, will be making some onscreen changes as well, including some cast shuffles."

I would die to know exactly what the "certain perameters" are that need to be met. Also, is it just me or does it make it very interesting that the 18 months would coincide with the 45th anniversary?

It actually wouldn't coincide with the 45th anniversary; it would end two months short.

I think the show will have a great chance if Corday fires Dena.

Ugh, just put this show out its misery already. It's good it got renewed in this climate, but I expect very little to change. This show is a sinking ship and I pains me to so that.
18 months also doesn't sound too promising, NBC appears to have very little confidence regarding the show. Also, September 10, 2010 is the start of the fall season and the perfect time to end DAYS, if they want.

I'm happy Days was renewed! Now that we have a little "stability" and the show has been renewed officially, can the show clean house and get a new headwriter ASAP!?!?!?! Rehashing plots (Nicole faking her pregnancy and possibly stealing Sami's), ignoring fan favorites (Steve, Kayla, Hope, Bo, Marlena, John), being plot driven (Nick killing Trent, really?) ignoring history (Nicole is NOT supposed to be able to have children...PERIOD), and letting executives dictate story rather than doing something original (Theo's autism story) are examples of why this woman should NOT be writing NBC's SOLE soap opera! Honor history, honor characters, honor the show! Ken Corday, fire Dena Higley and do this show the justice it deserves!
I would really love to have Hogan Sheffer back. Or Tom Casiello. Give him the chance to be the headwriter. He can possibly be what Sri Rao was to GH: NS. Come on people!

So is this as close to official as we are going to get, or is there going to be a actual announcement from NBC?
I just don't want to get my hopes up lol, also how many times this year have we heard its 'renewed' ?
Anyways good news, my guess on the parameters
Ratings: cant be bellow guiding light, must gain and stay at #3 (thats not really that hard to do lol).
Cast shuffling ---
Less vets, more newbies, some big firings will be coming soon.
My guess? Nick, Melanie, Patch/Kayla (Steve/Mary right?), possibly let Stefano go again, um Daniel, Nichole, Chloe (possibly, depends on chem test with Brady), and a few others.
With that said there mite be a few bradys returning like Kimberly.
Pretty much the people getting paid money but not doing anything. ((Molly B is just my wish))

This sounds like what Britney Spears' and Whitney Houston's therapists must have said to them, except using their names instead of the president of NBC's Golfing Club.

Smellykellyjay,
Eileen Davidson was open to a Days return after leaving B&B, but they never contacted her. It was in an interview with Nelson Branco. She said she would've liked to play Kristen and Susan again.

Since Susan is Elvis's mother it could easily work. Plus Eileen is in her fifties, she just still looks damn good. As Kristen she would be free to cougar scratch him!

A HW ago I would've been excited, but now I just don't care. I happy for you guys who are still fans, but thnxs to that hack Dena, they have lost a passionate fan. When they get a new HW then I can have hope for the show.

DaisyClover I will tell you another shocker agewise, Dana Delaney from Desperate Housewives. She's in her fifties too. That was my point about a Golden Girls update a few weeks back. Today's fiftysomething ain't our Grandma's fiftysomething. Both Blanche and Dorothy were in their fifties when that show started, in fact one of the early episodes had Blanche turning 50. I think America would eat it up.

It's disgusting that you'd even suggest a Kristen/EJ pairing when Kristen considered that boy her son from the day he was born. BTW, she does look old enough to play his mother.
