Dena Higley Pays Tribute to "Jim Reilly"
Days of Our Lives Head Writer Dena Higley recently posted a blog where she pays tribute to the recently deceased James E. Reilly.
As for other events of note, I'd like to mention the passing of Jim Reilly. He was, and will always remain, an amazing force behind the history of DAYS. I was lucky enough to write for him during the "Buried Alive" storyline--one of my favorites. Of course, I think he will most be remembered for having Marlena act completely out of character when she was possessed and then again when she was a serial killer. Two very popular and successful storylines. Jim's imagination was crazy and it was an adventure working for him. He will be missed by the entire daytime community.
Dena also gives a shout out to EJami fans, imploring them to "hang in there for the long haul". Must be getting a lot of hatemail lately. Keep it up EJami fans!

Am I the only one who thinks it's patently stupid for a writer to give shout outs to one fan base, when an equally popular fan base, Lumi, is also feeling disgruntled? Why is it that writers like Reilly or Bell(Bill that is) never had to explain themselves or beg the fans to "just wait"? Even when we wanted to scream about the pacing of their stories, they had us hooked because they had a vision and a purpose for their storytelling.

Yes it is stupid, and when you are creating a third fanbase (the Rafi's .......the Safi.......ummm Rami's? i like Rami's so i will stick with that)) the Rami's you have to learn to shut up.
What's the difference between Reilly/Bell vs. Dena? you cared about the storylines the other writers wrote, there is nothing on days you really care about.
Yea Fancy face is being snarky lil cop, and yea there are moments but when 98% of the show is crap the other 2% don't make up for it, and considering 1% of the 'moments' is the opening and closing of the show i think you have problems.

Exactly, Jamey! The first thing I thought when I read this was, "What about Lumi?!" I didn't hear Claire Labine telling Sonny and Brenda fans to be patient and excluding Jax and Brenda fans.

All i can say is nbc was banking on bringing james e reilly back but regrettably and sadly thats never going to happen.Several characthers that our currently on the show he created.His storylines at times were bizarre but it kept people watching and tuning in.He never favored characthers like dena does.If any oltl fans recall she was like that on oltl with some characthers.I remember watchimg soap talk were dena higley said she has her favorites and that was evident when she put nora in a coma

Wow, I have to hold on and I'll get EJami, I think I'd be more excited if I knew I'd recognize both of the charcters at the end of this mess. I mean right now, if James Scott wasn't playing EJ, I'd swear it was a completely different character! And, I really have no idea wth Sami is doing. So, thanks Dena - thanks so much!
I don't blame fans of vet couples for being pissed off at the singled out shout out either, because I was scratching my head going, and what about Patch and Kayla, John and Marlena, Tony and Anna? And will Bo and Hope ever get out of playing second fiddle to this who-don't-care-who-dun-it?

Another funny thing is that many of the comments left on Dena's blog make mention of the non-existence of Patch/Kayla and John/Marlena in current storylines too.

As an Ejami fan, trust me, a shout out from Dena is not a good thing. If your a Payla, Jarlena, or Lumi, count your blessings.
I agree Brooke I'm sure Dena has been getting slammed with hate mail. But I'm sure EJamis don't make up all of it. This show and writer need to learn how to balance these stories. I swear, if I have to watch Nicole bitch and moan and see Vets reduced to propping her man-shaped ass for much longer, I'll scream.
And "long haul"? Is she freaking kidding me? What else have we been doing?

Dena is the worst writer in the history of Days! 1 year ago I could not miss this soap and today I can not make myself watch. Stories are bad, new characters are taking over the show, there is no continuity, history is ignored and characters are unrecognizable. Dena has managed to destroy this show in less than a yr. Considering this is her second disaster, at least she is good at 1 thing!

It is sad, i hated the show last year as well, but we really didn't know how good we had it, or maybe we are just making last year out to be alot better then it actually was because this year has sucked so bad?.
I am ready for Exec's to get rid of her, but i don't think they know who to get to replace her, JER seems to have been their plan, but that's not going to happen so they are back on the hunt for a new HW.
I also find it really odd/bad that it hasn't been renewed yet, NBC mite just kill off DAYS the way things are going i wouldnt blame them.

I can't believe that I'm actually longing for 2007, but I am. At least the dialogue wasn't as cringe-worthy, and stories weren't so sleazy, and there was continuity in the stories, and oh yeah there was actual ROMANCE from time to time.
I think November is going to be a very long month for all Days fans.

Well, Dena certainly deserves the hate mail she gets. She is systematically destroying Days like she did OLTL. At least she is consistent. I'll give her that. But how pathetic is it that she has to beg for Ejami's viewership to hang on in her blog. Maybe if she wrote a convincing storyline for Ejami then the viewers would have reason to actually hang in there instead of the endless triangles and obstacles being shoved in their way. I think it is safe to say that Ejami is popular so Dena's brilliant idea is to tear them apart and use an unpopular hastily thrown together pairing Ejole as a way to get to Ejami? Brilliant! No wonder ratings are in the toilet.
And after that rant, I have no energy left to comment on the shocking lack of vets on the show. No Steve and Kayla, John and Marlena as well as Tony and Anna have all been MIA. Bope is now reduced to propping a lame storyline centered around newbies that no one gives two hoots about. Let see, are there any other fan bases Dena would like to piss off?
