Wasn't the first related AIDS death on soap Christine's mother on Y&R? I so remember that, I watched Y&R then.

Luke, I to loved the aftermath of Emily's death, beside Nikolas I loved it when Sonny sad his good byes to Emily, it was so good. Everyone had great good byes to her.

What about Luke and Laura's rape. REMEMBER THAT RAPE! But no their rape is never talked about just their love.
But with Todd and Marty is different. Oh no never love is out of the question.

Todd and Marty have great chemistry. Oh that kiss had so much chemistry!!!

Also I HATE LIZ/JASON. What is exciting about them. they have the same conversation EVERY DAY!
And Ding Dong Emily's dead!!!!!

Loved this episode, I like any list with multiple players from various soaps. I did miss Mike, so it was nice to have his list. Happy belated birthday Mike.

One correction, Cecile and Blaine fought over Sandy Frame not that wimpy Peter Love on AW.

Some omissions: Hitopah on Texas (an obscure reference to be sure), Rachel fighting with Janice Frame while Mac was being poisoned in the Virgin Islands on AW, and Alan shooting Rodger at Philip and Blake's wedding on GL.

Which leads me to an idea for a top 5 - How about top 5 Friday Cliffhangers ever (other than click-boom).

5. The introduction of Caroline Benson (GH) - I have always hated Carly and will probably continue to until my last dying breath. She was a young woman in pain over the fact that she was given up for adoption and hell bent on ruining her mother's life for what she felt was her abandonment of her and along the way steamrolled through everyone else's life. Bobbie, Tony, Robin, Jason, the list goes on and on. While through the years I feel that they have not done right by the character by making her mobster's moll and a loud mouth her beginnings on the show was true soap.

4. Bianca's rape and pregnancy. / Miranda's "death". (AMC) - I know many believe that Bianca was raped because she was a lesbian but I guess I was just too dumb to catch on because I didn't think that way at all. Bianca's rape and pregnancy, to me, was a revisiting of the rape and pregnancy of Erica and how Erica could never really love Kendall because of how she was conceived. Miranda is what bonded these women and healed them all from the past, the rapes, the shame, the anger, the pain. What separated them before is what bonded them after and love began to blossom. Sorry, I know that sounded really hokey.Smile

Kendall pretending to be pregnant so Bianca could conceal her pregnancy from her mother and be able to get the Cambias fortune that belonged to Miranda, all for the love of her sister, is what began to endear Kendall to many, including, eventually, Erica. And when everyone thought Miranda was dead the acting was out-of-this-world. Kendall telling Binks that Miranda was dead and instead of showing Bianca's immediate reaction to the news they showed everyone else waiting outside of her hospital room and how everyone reacted to the screams that came from Bianca. AMAZING!

3. Stone's death. (GH) - I see you! Oh, Robin, I see you! Remember when you liked Sonny?! When Robin wasn't barking and arguing about couches?! When love could actually save the World?! When Mac actually HAD a s/l? You could list 10 memorable s/l's from GH back in the 90's, maybe even more but Stone/Robin's love story is definitely one of the best. General Hospital back in the '90's didn't just tell stories but educated you, informed you, and pulled you into the emotions that these characters were feeling. I love you GH but why do you hate me?!

2. Tie: Lucky's discovery that Luke raped Laura./ Lucky's "death". (GH) - I didn't start watching GH until 1993 and Luke and Laura's wedding was about a month before my 2nd birthday when they returned around the time I started watching I wasn't that familiar w/ how iconic they were in the eyes of many. But from their reintroduction in '93 to '99 they had some of the best s/'s. From Luke's involvement w/ the mob to "Oh, I forgot to tell you I had a son when I was kidnapped" and so on and so on. I didn't know about Luke's raping Laura until maybe '95, I'm not sure. I read it and how they had called it the Seduction instead of Rape. It was so good they renamed it!Smile

Lucky's discovery of what his father did to his mother was not only painful for him because he saw what rape could do to a woman when it happened to Liz and not only because his family had continually lied to him, beginning w/ Laura concealing Nikolas' birth, but the main reason being because he had his father on a pedestal all his life. It was like Billy Graham finding out there's no God. That's how much Lucky looked up to his father. Being a Spencer, Luke's son was his identity. Finding out the truth about his parents changed him. He became his own man. He and Nikolas decided that whatever was between the Cassadines and Spencers had nothing to do w/ them and they became true brothers. Elizabeth could help Lucky the way he helped her after her rape and it only strengthened their love for each other. The various scenes between Lucky and Luke and Laura confronting each other and discussing the rape was so powerful. Again, GH at it's best.

Lucky's "death" was also amazing. Liz's devastation, Luke, Laura, Nikolas, Bobbie, etc. all grieving. I cried every single day. Laura imagining Lucky alive and he and Liz's wedding and marriage and children and Christmas'. But hands down her going off on Sonny and Jason at the morgue b/c she thought they were responsible was the best! And when she says to Sonny and Jason "God help any children of yours" sends shivers down my spine now since everything that has happened w/ Michael and Jason's fears about Jake.

You know, nobody mentioned my favorite Days storyline ever, when Vivan buried Carly alive. Poor Bo is morning yet another women he lost and Calry is trapped, burried alive and running out of air, Vivan rolling around on her grave laughing hystericaly that she won. Man, Carly went threw so much on Days. Awesome.

Loved all the great GH moments.

5. OLTL's Viki's goes to heaven-It was campy, but it was suppose to be in the 80's and Viki saw all her relatives was a great s/l.
4. ATWT's Kim's stalker reveal to be Frannie's bf- It was a brilliant reveal that send chills to the spine to the viewers and it was not spoilers back then and Doug Marland play it to the hilt and it was a good s/l. Frannie was played by Julianne Moore and was a great moment in time.
3.Stone's death on GH-It was a heart wrenching s/l that pull on your heartstrings that play beautifully and made it has long lasting effects still to be shown on GH with Robin still having the disease and now pregnant with child.
2. OLTL's Marty being gang rape-It was a horrible experience for Marty to go for and the way she went through and triumph with going to trial and facing Todd and not buckling under the trauma of the rape and now took back her life.
1.GL's Alexandra blasting Roger in the Country Club with all his enemies watching-When Alex married Roger, many say to her that he was using her for the Spaulding fortune and Alex was not a fool to be. But when she finally divorce Roger, she have he come into the Country Club so that they can sign the divorce papers, but Roger got there and saw all of Springfield's mover and shakers come there, it was obvious something was amiss and he went in anyway. When Alex gave a toast to Roger and apologize to everyone for bringing Roger into there mist, it was a great performance by Beverlee McKinsey that made it worth watching.

Honorable mentions go to GH's Bj's death and Maxie's heart transplant, Gh Luke and Laura s/ls through the years, AMC Erica's abortion not the McTrash undoing one, Y&R Dru and Malcolm love making session of creating Lily and created one of the most compelling who's the daddy s/l for years. Days' Salem Stalker, B&B's Brooke sleeping through the family.

Thanks Sod16. I would have loved to had a list ready but I texted mine and it was off the top of my head with a beer buzz. I LOVED Cecile on AW and remember well how she tormented Blaine!
I know I would have loved The Edge of Night best if I was around long enough to watch it. I was too young, but remember catching it late night on USA. I watch stuff on YouTube, but it's certainly not the same. The online episodes aren't always cooperative and only features the later years. Oh well!

Great podcast! It brought back a lot of memories. Here's my list of most memorable s/l's:

5. Shane's "dead" wife Emma shows up to torture Kimberly on Days. No one else probably remembers this s/l, but I LOVED Shane and Kim. They beat all the odds to be together, only to have Shane's 1st wife, Emma, (played by the fabulous Jane Windsor) show up. Kim was blind at the time and very vulnerable. Emma came to visit Kim and taunted her that she'd always be Shane's first love. On her way out, Emma stole Shane's mother's cameo that he had given to Kim as a symbol of his commitment to her. Kim realized it was gone, but couldn't see to look for it. Emma said, "are you looking for this?" and hurled the cameo through a plate glass window. I vividly remember Kimberly (Patsy Pease) crawling on the floor and searching through broken glass, sobbing, cutting her hands looking for the cameo she couldn't see, while Emma stood there watching and laughed. True soap.

4. Viki/Niki/Tommy/Princess/Jean/Tori/Victor/ OLTL. I wasn't even watching OLTL then, but I remember friends telling me about it and tuning in to see who Erika Slezak would be that day.

3. Bianca's rape/the baby switch/who killed Michael Cambias? AMC. I know this wasn't popular with many fans, but the acting here was stellar and the s/l was compelling. Hard to believe this was only 5 short years ago. I also loved that it intertwined both AMC and OLTL.

2. Who shot Jake? Another World. One of my favorite s/ls EVER! Anne Heche did some of her best work here. Often you'd forget it was the same actress playing such different characters, especially when Vicki and Marley had scenes together. Her best was Vicki pretending to be Marley at the trial, or when she was posing as Marley and was questioned by Vicki's bf Ryan the cop. Jamey described it vividly so I won't go into detail except to say it was one of the best mysteries EVER b/c there were so many viable suspects and the best part was, no characters were killed off or sacrificed in the outcome. I still remember being at the mall the day they revealed the shooter, and having to go to Sears to find a TV so I could see that it was Paulina. Smile Classic soapy goodness!

1. Robin and Stone, GH. Not just Stone's death, but the entire s/l. Classic Romeo and Juliet. In fact, they PLAYED Romeo and Juliet at the Nurse's Ball! How I miss those! Mac hated that his "good girl" was dating a "bad boy" and many arguments ensued Robin asked Felica for advice about birth control and she said "condoms aren't foolproof; just ask Georgie", lol. and so Robin got on the pill. Then after they'd had unprotectd sex, Stone found out he was HIV+ and was so scared he'd infected Robin. I remember him scraping his hands on the concrete bench in the park as if to scrape out the bad blood. Powerful stuff. Stone telling Robin he was HIV+ and her having to tell Uncle Mac that he may have been right about her dating a bad boy. Mac eventually supporting her as Stone was dying to the point where Robin was able to ask him whether or not to tell Stone that he'd infected her. And finally, the death scene. A powerful, emotional compelling s/l, that continuted through that first Nurses Ball after Stone's death, when Robin was presented w/ Stone's square from the AIDS Quilt and Jason had to help her off the stage, on to today with Robin's pregnancy. Even Patrick said it on NIght Shift. "I'll never be able to compete with Stone, will I?" Nope. Nobody will.

Honorable mention goes to Liz's rape and Liz and Lucky 1.0 up through Lucky's "death". I LOVED Jonathan Jackson and was devastated when they "killed" Lucky in the fire. The character reactions from Liz collapsing in Sonny's arms when Taggert brought her the melted subway token., to Laura insisting on going to the morgue and then fainting when she realized it was Lucky to Luke trashing Lucky's room at the Spencer house, all were riveting. Spoilers weren't as prevelant as they are now and I recall being totally angry when I found out that Lucky wasn't dead and they were recasting! I was so mad I'd been manipulated and had cried over a character who wasn't really dead! Crazy, I know, but that fact that I remember that s/l means it was succesful. Today's s/l's just don't have that same effect on me.

This podcast brought back a lot of memories and most of the stories mentioned would turn up on my list but one which instantly popped into my mind when I heard the subject didn't turn up. It is from years ago on Guiding Light -- Beth's rape. Philip and Rick first met Beth when she shared a hospital room with Mindy but what they didn't know was that her bruises were from her step father Bradley. Rick began dating Beth while Philip dated Mindy so of course Beth and Philip fell in love. After the magical night at the prom where Philip and Beth were king and queen, Beth returned home to an irate Bradley. Outraged at her interest in boys, he forced her to the couch and raped her. I can still see in my head the scene from the next day when Philip comes to the door and a dead-eyed Beth sends him away. This eventually leads to Beth and Philip on the run in NYC.

Also -- Hillary Bauer was Ed's half-sister -- the illegitimate daughter of matriarch Bert's husband. A nurse, she was involved with Dr. Jim Reardon (Tony, Nola and Chelsea's brother) when she was killed by an exploding music box in an umbrella mystery which eventually leads to the discovery of Alan and Alexandra's mulatto half-sister.

5. Stone/Robin/AIDS story - GH

4. Jasam/Jason gets amnesia *again* - GH: I thought this was going to be an incredibly stupid story, but it ended up being so romantic! Usually an amnesia story is used as an obstacle for a couple, with the two people reuniting only after the person starts getting their memory back. But in this story, Jason fell in love with Sam all over again. *SWOON*

3. Brent/Marian/Psycho s/l - GL: Creepy, suspenseful, darkly humorous, and sad (people we liked actually got killed!) Brilliant!

2. Roman (Wayne Northrop) Is Alive! (so who the heck is Drake Hogestyn playing?!) - DAYS: The most shocking soap story/plot twist of all time, imo

1. Eden's Rape - SB: Absolutely devestating. It's one of the few times a rape s/l was done well (I choose to forget what direction the s/l *eventually* went.) The show took us through every stage of Eden's experience (from the rape, to the doctor's exam, through her healing process). Powerful stuff.

Two things about the podcast. I have to say that the Who Shot Jake storyline is on my Never Happened list because there's no way Jake would ever rape anyone!! Sad Never Happened...

And I would argue w/ Jamey's idea that Liason is the best couple to hit GH in 15 years. No Way! Brenda/Sonny, Dominique/Scotty, Robin/Stone, Sam/Jason all kick Liason's butt Smile

It's all ABC and Mostly OLTL so (Drumroll please....)
Honerable Mentions:
10. Tina saying Cords name instead of Max's on OLTL!!
9. Tie: Billy Dougles Storyline on OLTL/ Jason Quartermain's emergance as Jason Morgan GH.
8. Gillian dying on AMC (Sniff-sniff)
7. Tie: Stone's Death & Anna and Robert's "supposed" death on GH.
6. Tie: Megan & Luna's death on OLTL (I went threw soo much kleenex on both storylines I swear I own stock in Kleenex now LOL!)

Top 5:

5. Tie: The return of Luke and Laura back in the 90's/ Karen Woleck confessing she was a hooker on OLTL!
4. Bianca's rape/ Who killed Micheal Cambias storyline on AMC
3. BJ's death on GH (The most memorable death scene ever on daytime)
2. Marty's Gang rape on OLTL (Micheal Malone's best work on OLTL. He should be insulted by how Carliviti and Fronzs are destroying such a powerful storyline)
1. The emergance of all of Vicki's alters on OLTL back in the 90's.

I hope I helped jog some viewers memories!

The one I think of is the death of Dominque on GH in 90 or 91. That was amazing I never thought that Scotty and Lucy could make me cry so much.
