Hello David Hayward! With word that All My Children's Vincent Irizarry is returning to Pine Valley as David Hayward I couldn't help but take a moment to fantasize about a pairing long overdue, at least in my opinion. I'm sorry for all of you who make fun of me for my "Greenlee love" but I don't care. This post is as much about Greenlee as it is David, maybe more.
I don't know how many of you were watching All My Children back when Leo died but in the fallout after his death, as both Greenlee and David were mourning the loss of a husband and brother, I swear I saw the potential for a hugely popular couple. Unfortunately, what we ended up with was a rage filled; double snipping, I'm afraid to be a father, Fight Club induced, motorcycle jumping off cliff debacle unlike anything we'd seen to that point.
As a huge (and that may be an understatement) Greenlee fan, Rebecca Budig's return to Pine Valley has been nothing short of disappointing for the shear fact that the writers have been unable to recreate the magic of Kendall and Greenlee's fast paced banter and dialogue. Not to mention that Greenlee and Kendall should be frenemies instead of the "we are sisters" marathon. Nor has the " You are my true love, no you are my true love" scenes, we've been subjected to since Greenlee's return, made things any easier. Any All My Children fan who watched during the Leo and Greenlee era knows, without a shadow of a doubt, that her profession of "you are my true love" to these other men is nothing more than a giant mound of shitaki mushrooms.
Nothing would make me happier than to have David Hayward's return to Pine Valley be Greenlee's wake up call, the catalyst of Greenlee's rebirth as a character. And what is to say that if Greenlee and David have the same chemistry they once did, the two characters couldn't be paired romantically? Anything to get Greenlee out of this Aiden/Greenlee/Ryan/Annie/Kendall/Zach abomination.

I'm in the same Greenlee Love Boat you are on Luke but since they brought back the character of Greenlee, first w/ Sabine and now w/ Rebecca, the writing for her has been nothing short of awful. I'm hating the writing for both the characters of Greenlee and Kendall. When Kendall came to work w/ lattes for everyone my mouth just dropped. Kendall and Greenlee should make Miranda Priestly look like Mother Teresa. And calling Aidan her one true love put me in a state of disbelief. I've ranted about this before and I can't do it again. Also, Babe is not David's daughter. I will never, ever, ever in a million years go along w/ that.

Jamey...why can't David have the love of a younger woman...look what it has done for Eric Forrester (b&b)! What is good on one show can be great on another show. I am just very dispointed that GL did not cast him as Lujack!

I'm not wild about any of those options, so I created 2 of my own.
I'm voting for E. Bring back Finola Hughes as Anna since GH is so criminally underusing her and have them try again as a couple. OR option F. Bring back Amanda Dillon's mother, Janet as a heart patient who needs Dr. Hayward's help. Amanda throws herself at the bad doctor for saving her mom, but David only has eyes for Crazy Janet, her money and the fact that her neuroses remind him of his mother, Vanessa. It would be a match made in hell. His penchant for do it yourself pharmacology mixed with her craziness? Explosive (maybe literallly)!

I personally think it would be great if he found his way into a storyline with Erica again, they had a really interesting relationship if I remember. Even if it's not a romantic relationship, their chemistry should be put to great use and give Erica something to do besides be TV host/jailbait.

As you can tell from my handle, I'm still going to say give us D/G fans what we've wanted since Leo died. Of course, I want to see if that connection is still there, but if it is, go for it. I think the writing as a whole for the show is lousy lately. There are glimmers of the Greenlee I love though, and Budig is my favorite daytime actress.
BE looks about as haggard to me as his former lover on Y&R. I love Beth, but her face is taking a turn for the worse. He needs someone that will keep him on his toes, and I think that's Greenlee. My dream storyline was for David to convince her to start a new company with him as the chemist. That man can cook up anything in his laboratory.

David and Greens will ALWAYS be my first choice; they have been ever since Leo died and they shared such an amazing connection! It was the perfect match of emotionally-sensitive writing and the phenomenal talent of VI and RB! He's in his 40s, she's in her 30s, so no, he's not old enough to be her father, LOL!
I also see possibilities with Taylor and David (VI had terrific actor chem with BE when they were on GL together years ago!), and Annie, just as she is, providing intense conflict with Greens/Ryan! He's already enchanted by Emma, and no one will get her obsessive love for Ryan any better than David, who's been there and then some with Dix. And no, I don't want him to have ANYTHING to do with her return, if indeed it ever happens. They were McTrashed beyond repair two years ago, so they can find another convenient doormat villain for that story as far as I'm concerned!
I don't want to see ANY retread romances for David; he deserves a true fresh start!
