Looking back at the submitted work in this clip I couldn't help but remember Jensen Buchanan's Vicky on Another World. Boy do I miss that show and wouldn't it be great if a show brought her back to daytime with a gangbuster role and not the role murdering nurse like General Hospital did?
Lead Actress Nominees in 1997:
- Jensen Buchanan - Another World
- Genie Francis - General Hospital
- Susan Lucci - All My Children
- Jess Walton - Young & Restless

I like Jess Walton just fine, but this still ranks as the biggest oversight in Daytime Emmy history for me. Genie Francis' work in 1996 is the single finest I have ever seen by an actress in daytime. Ever. Walton wasn't even a lead in 1996, but we all know about the Emmys' bizarre rules for classification.
I'll always look at Genie's Emmy win for 2006 as a make-up award for losing 10 years earlier.

Damn, that was a great year for soaps! I was rooting for either Jensen or Genie that year so naturally Jess won...
