No more Harley?? How in the world could GL let Ehlers go?? I know, this kind of stuff happens all the time. But the show is on its last legs, and now they're losing one of its most popular heroines ever!

Puh lease. They replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar. There are only a handful of roles in daytime that can't be recast, Luke, Laura, Erica, Victor Newman, Marlena, the rest is pretty much fair game.

Well they killed of Gus and gave his heart to Olivia....Maybe they'll kill Harley off and give her eye's to Natalia adn her lungs to Alan. lol....GL seems intent on making sure that big stars that leave or are fired can't come back.

And look at how well the Kendall recast turned out---the current Kendall is nowhere near as good as SMG. Star roles cannot be recast. EVER.

Plus it's disrespectful to Kelly who stayed with AMC even when she got a better job.

Harley's eyes needs to be passed around to the film crew, so they can SEE when those damn cameras are shaking!

I would argue that there are maybe 10 roles in all of daytime that couldn't be recast if the current stars were to leave their shows. (not talking about stars not currently on TV). Some of these are recasts themselves  but it was YEARS ago when it was still possible recast name actors/characters...Today you try it and huge fan bases leave. This also doesn't include all the heritage characters that are rarely seen. I'm talking about characters that are front burner stars like KR was when she left AMC.

I may be missing some but there aren't that many who couldn't be recast in today's environement. To me Hayley is a fairly minor character in comparison to the above mentioned. She hasn't been on the show in almost ten years. To me Hayley is fair game. Though I do feel you're pain. I had to bear a Greenlee recast...lol

BS. Alicia Minshew is not the problem at AMC. She is very popular and a great leading lady. What are soaps supposed to do???? Retire core characters at the whim of actors? That's sheer lunacy. There were four Ashley Abbotts on Y&R, three or four Jills, at least two Nikki's, three or four Mindys on GL and those shows went ON! That's what's wrong with daytime now, they let actors dictate how things should be done. No role should be sacred. Those characters are owned by the shows, not even the writers who create them have permanent say over how they are used-ask Agnes Nixon-so why in high hell should actors???

I think Alicia Minshew does a great job as Kendall. However, it's true that it is difficult to successfully recast a role when the original actor was as well liked as Kelly Ripa and Marcy Walker.

A long time ago there was a discussion about this on the forums and I wrote this (sorry, feeling too lazy to come up with any original thoughts on this topic):

I honestly believe any character can be recast successful, under the RIGHT circumstances (a great story, chemistry w/ other actors, and casting it w/ an actor that emodies the spirit of the character, while at the same time putting their own spin on it as well...) There are plenty of roles that I felt were impossible to recast successfully, AMC Kendall, Y&R Jack, GH Carly, AW Vicky (Ellen Wheeler, Anne Heche, Jensen Buchanan-who after some growing pains is considered by many to be the definitive Vicky), and most strikingly DAYS Bo (while Peter Reckell was always the favorite, and most fans were happy to have him back, Robert Kelker-Kelly was very popular and was Bo during the popular Billie/Bo coupling). And OLTL Todd...

 I doubt they are threatening K. Rip at all. She's a HUGE star!! Why would she want to return to a fledgling soap? When she left 10 years ago she promised to pop up as Hayley from time to time and unless I am mistaken she has never looked back! This character is core to this show, she's a Chandler for crying out loud, they can't put a permanent moratorium on Hayley because of an actress who has gone on to bigger and better things! If all the soaps did that, they'd have to write out core families every two to three years and keep bringing on new families, which would only piss the fans off more.

Anything is possible at this point. If Kelly did get hacked when she learned of a possible recast (which is JUST a rumor) then ABC might have buckled in fear of Ripa not talking about her AMC days anymore on Live, which would cost them free publicity. So they may very well decide to go with an original character, but my money is she will be a recast.

GL is on its last legs due to bad writing, slashing of the budget, bad production and serious character destruction.

I cannot see BE as Hayley or Liza so I hope she comes on as a new character. As far as AM is concerned I wasn't thrilled about her taking over the role of Kendall but she has won me over.

Part of this might be the question, What defines a successful recast? For me, it doesn't necessarily mean that the recast is more popular or even as popular as the original. IMO a successful recast is someone who over time builds a strong following in their own right. But they won't necessarily be everyone's favorite version of the character.

Hear, hear, Jay! It's the same for actors who only want to come back for limited runs. No story on daytime can be successfully done when the actor is only looking for a paycheck inbetween what they feel are better jobs. I say if you have to choose between hiring the original actor for three months just in the hopes of a ratings boost, and getting a new actor to play to the role who will gladly take the long term contract because they want to act, go with the newbie every time. Good writing SHOULD will out, even if the actor is unknown.

And I am all of a sudden very interested in watching AMC again. I've never watched RPG or BE, but I kow they have stellar reps from Gl, so I'm looking forward to seeing them together along with MEK.

I knew that Beth was gone! As much as I love Harley, BE deserves better than the crap she was getting in Springfield. God, I want her to be Hayley. I also believe she will be mismatched as Liza. Maybe she's coming on as Jake's wife, Carolyn. God, i don't wanna see Tad in another triangle. He needs his Dixie!

I desperately want the character of Liza Colby back on AMC. It makes so much sense with Jesse, Greg, Angie, Tad, Colby, Jake all being there. I would love, love, love to have Marcy Walker back, but since she's not interested, I'd be okay with a good recast.

...But I don't think Beth Ehlers is it. I think she'd be fine as Hayley, but I just don't see her fitting as Liza. I DO hope that AMC will cast someone great for Liza though!
