Soap Appearances Translate To Spike In Record Sales For Musicians
Wonder why you're seeing so many of your favorite musicians turning up on your favorite soaps? According to Entertainment Weekly, it's all-or at least partly-about the Benjamins baby!
While hip-hop superstars like Snoop Dogg, who appeared on One Life to Live last week, and Mary J. Blige, who did a stint earlier in the year, are admitted soap opera fans (Blige even used Y&R's Nadia's Theme in her hit song "No More Drama"), there appearances in fictional towns like Llanview haven't simply been related to their adoration for Clint, Bo and Viki.
EW's Abby West reported that after Blige's appearance at Starr Manning's 16th birthday party, the singer's CD sales rose by 36 percent. Only time will tell if Snoop's appearance at Bitchy Bang's bachelorette party or Trace Atkin's serenade to Nick and Phyllis on Young and the Restless will help their respective CD sales or not.
