Young and the Restless: So The Wicked Witch Wins Again

Well it's finally going to happen. The Abbott home, sacred to Young and the Restless fans for almost thre decades due it's warmth, wisdom and of course Mamie's cinnamon rolls at breakfast, is now going to be fully owned by Gloria Fisher (Judith Chapman), the lying, scheming, bottom feeding urchin who killed John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) just as sure as if she'd put a gun to his head!

No, she didn't actually do the deed, but her lies and schemes started poor John down a path of degradation and despair. From the moment Gloria began seeing the older man and lying about the fact that her children were town pariahs Michael and Kevin (Christian LeBlanc and Greg Rikaart), the latter of whom had tried to kill John's own granddaughter, I knew she was trouble with a capital 'T'. But sadly even when John found out about her lies he forgave her. Oh the perils of Viagra!

John also forgave Gloria for bringing Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born), her demented not-so-ex husband, into the lives of the Abbotts-most notably John's favorite daughter Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and her precious tyke Abby.  All Gloria had to do was bat those big blue eyes and sing a sad song about her past and the gentle and generous John would pat her on the bottom, er head and say "there, there!" Meanwhile he would rip his son Jack (Peter Pergman) or daughter Ashley new you-know-whats if they dared to speak out against this woman!

The Merry Wives of Abbott

Now in Gloria's defense (God that sentence was almost harder to write than filling out my Selective Service form) John Abbott had a long tradition of falling for the wrong women. His first wife Dina abandoned him with three kids to raise and actually bore her tennis pro's love child (Ashley), a fact that John went to his grave never learning. Second wife Jill was just as bad.  During their first marriage she brought disgrace and scandal to the family and Jabot by having a nasty fling with Jack. The second time around Jill made an artform out of cheating on John, with the likes of her attorney, a contractor and even Victor Newman himself. There was even early speculation that Jill's son with Billy was actually Victor's child. But even at her worst Jill Abbott has 10 times more decency, class and self respect than Gloria Fisher!

There is no way Jill would have sabatoged a Jabot skin care line out of spite. She knew how much that company meant to John, as did anyone who truly loved him. And for Gloria to knowingly damage the business John had built from the ground up and standby silently while Jack and others took the fall, made this character truly irredeemable in my opinion. Which is why it was so doggone frustrating to see her handed the show under Lynn Marie Latham's regime while Jack was written as the bad old putty tat! What son wouldn't go to any lengths  in order to protect his father's legacy and his family's birthright from a trashy, gold digging sociopath?

All I can do is hope that Jack surrendering the house to his stepmonster is only a temporary plot device. I have high hopes that now that LML has left the building, new headwriter Maria Arena Bell will give so many of the fans what we've been screaming for and that's for Gloria to get her due. It has to be revealed that her actions cost the Abbotts Jabot and led to John dying of a broken heart. Jack also has to be given the opportunity to gloat in the faces of Katherine, Nikki and Jill for their disloyalty to him and his father.

Lauren Fenmore as a sidekick???

Of all of Gloria's crimes, the most tragic has been what she has done to once enigmatic characters like Michael, Kevin and Lauren (Tracey Bregman). These formerly interesting, multi-faceted characters are now basically unwitting accomplices in her every other-the-top scheme. Here's to hoping the next storyline involving Gloria and a house ends with it landing on her.

As Lisa would say: PREACH IT, JAY!!! Laughing out loud

I have to believe that Gloria getting the house is really just setting her up for a huge fall. Give the baddie what she wants, make it look like she's won and then take it all away from her in one fell swoop!

I'm sure they are suffering a serious Gloria backlash. A lot of people want to see Gloria's comeuppance, so they need to bring her down, make her pay for her crimes, humble her, and then they can get her back to her scheming ways.

Gloria needs to be backburnered pronto! I love Judith Chapman. She was great on Days as Anjelica, but I can't stomach the character of Gloria on Y&R. And it's not in a "love ot hate" way like JR on Dallas or Sami on Days back in the day, where you couldn't wait to see what they would do next, I actually fast forward through her scenes. This is an example of bad soap writing 101. You don't bring in some new character and get rid of a core family and build the show around that character.

(((shaking head))) Not even going to go there...Those of us who like Gloria may be far and few between but I think she's a great character, though I will give you she gets a lot of airtime, but every soap needs a scheming character like her. And though some may not "love to hate" her, no one ever does, no matter the soap or the character. A lot of people have out right hated Sami or Kate on Days over the years and FF through them while others love to hate them and still others like them. Most soaps usually have at least one such character, though some more.

Sami and Kate were wildly popular and the ratings during their scheming runs proved it, so Gloria doesn't even rate by comparison. Also they were never given the enitre show at the expense of other long term veteran characters. And as for every show having a schemer, of course they do and Y&R already had several, Dru, Phyllis, Jill and Lauren to name a few, but they backburnered and/or defanged those characters (except for Dru who they turned into a cartoon) at the expense of Gloria.

Luke, even as a Gloria fan wouldn't you like to see her getting taken down (briefly)? It would be a classic Sami-like moment. She thinks she's gotten everything she wants and then BAM it blows up in her face. It gives anti-Gloria fans some pleasure, but fans of Gloria get to see her scratch and claw her way back to the top! I think characters like Glo are so much more interesting when they're the underdog and are on the revenge path Smile

I always call it the Scarlett moment: as God as my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again... If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill...I'll never be hungry again.

At this point I'm perfectly happy watching her scratch and claw to hang on to what little she has.

Daisy...please...my blood pressure can't take it, you did not just reference my all-time favorite fictional vixen Scarlett O'Hara in comparison to that dirty bird Gloria Fisher!!! LOL

LMAO She has EVERYTHING!!! Poor dead Gary Ewing's $50 million dollars! His twin brother lusting after her like a VIagra-crazed tomcat, all her kids devoting their youth to her shenanigans and tomfoolery and now to boot, she's got the Abbott mansion! I know, why don't they just have Monica sell the Q manse to Carly on GH? That would go over SO well with the classic GH fans!

Sorry Jay, LOL!! Scarlett is one of my fav vixens too - she's the original Diva!

I want to love to hate Gloria instead of just hating her. I liked her at one point (when JVA was playing her). I guess I'd like to see some balance, like Jay said. And a takedown would go a long way in making her more likeable to me.

It would have been such a treat if Joan Van Ark had stayed in the role and they cast Ted Shackleford as William!

I am one of Gloria fans, she is usually very entertaining.

I must say that her latest story with Jeffrey was boring like hell and that the Glorious Mrs. Chapman started to overact, the way Jeffrey does, I look forward to see that guy gone he is not believable at all! I hate overacting!

As for Jill being less of a bad girl than Gloria, let me laugh that one! Glo tainted a cream that was NOT in circulation and was NOT suppose to be. The only intended victim was herself.

Compare to Jill who on purpose, hired a guy to impersonate a great man, let Kate fall in love with him and after tell her in the most heinous way that it was all a sham. I am sorry, but Jill was and still is an awful person.

Gloria is only a stupid woman, lying, manipulating but never wanting to hurt people on purpose, only Jack. And for good reason I might say! I like Jack but the way he treated Gloria I will never forget!

I look forward to watch the new HW stuff. When are we going to see it, anybody know?

I can't wait for Gloria to get hers. I believe she will. Y&R is very good at setting it up so that you want to scream, throw something at the TV and just tune out for good, but you don't because you have to watch (and wait) for when the time comes and your wish is granted. So this viewer is spitting nails right now, but waits because she knows Gloria will go down and the wait will be worth seeing that (* insert creative swear here*)fall. Oh, what a sweet, sweet time that will be.
