Guiding Light: Paging Nick and Mindy
With Ricky Paull Goldin (ex-Gus) already out and Beth Ehlers (Harley) and Marcy Rylan (Lizzie) rumored to be following suit, it's gonna take some pretty big star power to plug the hole in the bottom of Guiding Light's sinking ship.
We applaud the heck out of actress-turned-exec producer Ellen Wheeler (ex-Vicky and Marley, AW/ex-Cindy, AMC) for managing to get the show renewed by going to a new production format, because let's be honest, GL was facing cancellation rumors LONG before the daring and innovative Wheeler took the helm. That being said, it's time GL totally restructured itself storywise, and bringing back fan favorites Vincent Irizarry (ex-Nick/Lujack) and Krista Tesreau (ex-Mindy) to rebuild the show around could be just the ticket.
Irizarry has been wasted over at Y&R. And even though that show is experiencing a renaissance, in all honesty Josh Griffith, Maria Arena Bell and crew need to focus on Y&R's legacy characters, of which Irizarry's David isn't one.
Why not have him return to the soap where he first became a daytime superstar, just in time to help save it? As for Krista Tesreau, no she wasn't playing Mindy when Nick fell madly in love with her-despite his mother Alexandra's machinations-but she is the original Mindy and a fan favorite. And unlike Tesreau she wasn't romantically linked to Irizarry in real life, so it might be easier to faciliate her return in the role.
What if Billy's little princess was secretly pregnant with Nick's child when she left town and decided to keep it from Nick to prevent the kid from growing up a dysfunctional Spaulding? Can you imagine the shock on Alex's face? Also Billy's ex Vanessa was always closer to her stepdaughter Mindy than she was her own biological daughter Dinah. Think of the possibilities of a Dinah vs. Mindy rivalry, complete with Bill-thehalf brother both women share-playing referee? This could be just what GL needs to get viewers to finally turn back on the 'Light.

GL need a new EP and a head writer that knows what they are doing. As long as Ellen Wheeler is in charge I do not want to see any of my favorites come back to the show only to be turned into something I don't recognize.

I have to defend Ellen here because GL really starting pulling some turkeys back in the 90s when they wasted so much time trying to mimic Days with all those asinine supernatural or otherwise out there storylines, i.e. Ghost Reva, Amish Reva, Clone Reva, Princess Reva from San Cristobel, the Santos mob family, Blake getting pregnant by twins by different daddies, etc. She inherited a hot mess and at least she's managed to keep it on the air.

well after EW called the Jammy fans the Lunatic Fringe I really can't like her that much But I actually miss the 90's GL i.e the santos and San Cristobel.

She may have kept the show on the air but she destroyed every character in the process. The stories you mentioned happened long before Ellen was in charge of the show so she did not inherit them. When Ellen took charge the show was not that bad but she then started playing favorites,destroying history,characters and insulting fans intelligence with the crap that she has approved.
Ellen is responsible for the Phillip debacle,Olivia almost hooking up with her rapist,Everybody loves the Coopers, Spauldings are total evil,Cassie and Josh, minister Josh, toddler teen Leah,Rick playing a part in Ross's death, Alan obsessed with babies,Alan hiring a hitman that killed Tammy,Reva's breast cancer storyline.
Ellen's reign of terror has done more to damage GL than any other EP in GL history.

I must admit all the stories you mentioned were stinkers! LOL I hated them turning Philip into a villain and Jeffrey never should have been made a rapist. I like the Coopers, but the Bauers are the show's heart, not the Coopers.

Though I'd prefer seeing Irizarry back on AMC, I think GL could really use him!! And I love Krista Tesreau. I think it's a fantastic idea Jay.
I haven't watched in awhile, but I think GL needs to bring back Marah and Shayne. I can't for the life of me understand why Reva and Josh's kids aren't heading up the "younger" generation on the show

For the life of you and me. I would love to see someone like Alicia Leigh Willis (ex-Courtney, GH) or Christie Clark (ex-Carrie, Days) as Marah, with Dax Griffin as Shayne.

I like your idea of Christie Clark!! But I'm still hoping they'll bring her back to DAYS and really do justice to the Sami/Carrie rivalry. I've always said that with time and great writing they could be as great as Jill/Katherine, Vicki/Dorian...
And Dax Griffin as Shayne would be great! It would give Shayne an edge that I don't ever remember him having before (Shayne used to bore me to death.)
I'm also thinking Lauren Woodland (ex-Brittany, Y&R) for Marah.

I've seen a lot of good and bad over 32 years of watching GL, but the last 5 years have to be the worst I've ever seen. Because of EW and DK I quit watching. You don't know how much it breaks my heart to say that.
